Hathersage riverside pushchair walk

A short, out-and-back walk which I’m told can actually be followed all the way to Grindleford if you want. The first part is on a good track – it gets rougher and muddier the further you go. The main attraction is the beautiful trees overhanging the still-young Derwent river… and the coffee at David Mellor’s cutlery factory afterwards!

  • AREA: Hathersage
  • DISTANCE: variable
  • FACILITIES: Cafes, playgrounds, toilets, outdoor pool in Hathersage
  • PARKING: Hathersage (pay and display)
  • GRADIENT: Flat
  • TERRAIN: Suitable for all-terrain pushchairs, easy walking at first but rougher as you go further
  • OS MAP: OS Dark Peak Explorer map

  1. From Hathersage town centre, follow the footpath beside the B6001 south towards Grindleford, taking care under the railway bridge.
  2. Just after the David Mellor factory (serving the best coffee around…) but before the road crosses the Derwent you’ll see a large track leading off to your left (marked public footpath).
  3. Follow the path alongside the river for as far as you want, then return by the same route.
